Rugged and remote bush camping opportunities are available within this scenic island national park.

Camping permits are required and fees apply. A tag with your booking number must be displayed at your camp site.

Our precious Great Barrier Reef World Heritage islands are among the most pest-free islands in the world. They need your help to stay this way. Please Be pest-free! (PDF, 573.6KB) before your visit.

Park-specific conditions

Camping on Hinchinbrook Island is accessed by boat. The camping areas listed below are for boat-based camping. Boat-based camping permits do not permit people to walk the Thorsborne Trail.

There are various permitted commercial operators that can conduct transfers/tours to the island for day visitors or campers. Commercial operators can only operate within their permit conditions, which may restrict when and where transfers/tours can occur.

A separate camping booking system is provided for sea kayakers and the Thorsborne Trail. Camping permits for educational and military groups must be obtained through Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS). To request a permit email qpws@des.qld.gov.au.

Please remain behind the temporary crocodile barriers at The Haven and South Macushla camping areas at all times.
