Northerwestern section of Mount Barney National Park closed

This alert applies to the following park:

Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) will be conducting a planned burn (weather permitting) from Friday 28 June 2024, as part of the fire management program for Mount Barney National Park.

During this closure the northewestern section of Mount Barney National Park will be closed. This includes Mount Ballow, Minnages Mountain, Double Peak, Durramlee Peak, Mowburra Peak and Mount Watson. This closure does not affect access to the summit routes on Mount Barney or Mount Maroon. 

This area will remain closed until safe to reopen.

Smoke may be seen in the vicinity of Mount Barney, Burnett Creek and Maroon. Persons with respiratory or other health problems should seek medical advice on mitigating the effects of smoke inhalation.

All permits for closed areas are suspended for the duration of the closure.

Commercial tour operators and other permit or agreement holders are not permitted to enter closed area.

Please observe all signage, barriers and directions from rangers and do not enter closed areas.
