This alert applies to the following parks:

The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) and Butchulla Aboriginal Corporation (BAC) rangers will be conducting planned burns within the K’gari (Fraser Island) section from 26th February 2024 – August 31st 2025, weather permitting, as part of the annual hazard reduction/conservation management program for parks and forests.

The aim of these burns is to reduce the volume of forest fuels and to create a mosaic pattern of burnt and unburnt areas.  This will help reduce the intensity of any subsequent wildfires and provide favourable conditions for natural forest regeneration.

As a result, smoke may be seen island-wide, including areas within Kingfisher Bay Resort Village, Dilli Village, Eurong resort & township, Dundubara, Orchid Beach township and Waddy Point.

Smoke can decrease visibility on the roads, so it is important that motorists drive safely to the conditions. Visitors and residents should close windows and doors and keep medications close by if suffering from a respiratory illness.

For more information, please call Eurong office of QPWS on (07) 4127 9128, Dundubara office of QPWS on (07) 4127 9138 or Waddy Point office of QPWS on (07) 14279190.

Please observe all signage, barriers and directions from rangers and do not enter closed areas.

Your safety is our concern, but your responsibility.
