Due to ongoing safety and access issues, the following facilities will remain CLOSED until further notice:
-
All Main Beach camping areas within the Minjerribah Recreation Area.
Severe erosion has occurred along the exposed beaches making traversing challenging. Motorists using Flinders Beach and Main Beach are advised to use caution and travel at a reduced speed to avoid hazards such as steep sand dunes, hidden banks, fallen trees and large debris.
Beach travel is prohibited one hour either side of high tide on Flinders and Main Beach. However, due to conditions we recommend not travelling three hours either side of high tide as this may be unsafe.
Driving over vegetated dunes is not permitted despite beach and track conditions. Fines apply for anyone driving or parking on vegetated dunes.
The extreme tides have deposited large amounts of rubbish and potential hazardous material. For your safety, please avoid any material and prevent children from playing near it.
Erosion of the dunes along exposed beaches has created steep, unstable sand dunes which can collapse without warning.
For your safety:
- Never climb or dig into sand dunes;
- Avoid standing, sitting or parking near the base of the dunes; and
- Supervise children closely and DO NOT allow them to play on or near dunes.
Observe all signage, barriers and directions from rangers and do not enter closed areas.
