This alert applies to the following park:
- Goold Island National ParkTropical North Queensland
Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) will conduct planned burn operations on Goold Island National Park from May to September as part of the annual hazard reduction and conservation management program for parks and forests.
Planned burns are vital in promoting ecological health, biodiversity, and the conservation of species and habitats.
They also aim to mitigate the risk and intensity of bushfires and their potential impacts on communities, infrastructure, parks, and forests.
Planned burns are highly weather-dependent, generally requiring milder conditions and minimal wind.
Before any planned burn is undertaken, local stakeholders, nearby communities and booked campers will be informed. Check Park Alerts for up to date information about QPWS planned burns.
Smoke may be seen coming from the island at times throughout the season. Smoke can decrease visibility on the roads and on the water, so it is important that motorists and vessel masters drive safely to the conditions.
Please observe all signage, barriers, and directions from Rangers.
For more information, please call the QPWS Magnetic Island office on (07) 4778 5378.
Stay up-to-date with Current bushfire warnings and incidents from Queensland Fire Department (QFD).
