This alert applies to the following park:

Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) will be conducting a pest management control program at Byfield National Park – Sandy Point section including the adjacent intertidal zone within the Great Barrier Reef Coast Marine Park will be closed from 1am Monday 8th September 2025 to 4pm Friday 12th September 2025 (weather permitting) as part of the conservation management program for the park. Firearms may be used during this time.

Visitor access to Sandy Point will be reopened by 4pm Friday 12th September, 2025. 

All control activities will be in accordance with the approved pest management plan and will help to protect native wildlife from the harmful effects of introduced animals.  

Commercial tour operators and other permit or agreement holders are not permitted to enter closed areas. 

All other areas of Byfield National Park and will remain open, including Nine-mile beach.
