Revel in the vast rolling landscape of Ka Ka Mundi country on the 4WD journey to reach Bunbuncundoo Springs camping area. Ancient sandstone overlaid with basaltic lava has been eroded over thousands of years creating the scattering of basalt outcrops you see today. Lush oases of tree ferns and coral ferns around Ka Ka Mundi’s springs attract many birds including king parrots, figbirds and wompoo fruit-doves.

Set up your tent or off-road camper trailer and relax in the tranquil surroundings. Walk down to see the springs—one of the recharge springs for the Great Artesian Basin.

Getting there and getting around

Bunbuncundoo Springs camping area is in the Ka Ka Mundi section of Carnarvon National Park in central Queensland's Sandstone Wilderness, 130km south-west of Springsure.

  • Bunbuncundoo Springs camping area is 12.5km from the park entrance.
  • To reach Ka Ka Mundi from Springsure, drive 50km on the Dawson Development Road, then take the Buckland Road to the south and follow signed tracks past Petrona and Tanderra, through Yandaburra, to the park entrance. 4WDs are recommended.

Opening hours

Bunbuncundoo Springs camping area is open 24 hours a day. Check-in to your camp after 2pm and check-out by 11am on the day of departure.
