Rangers Sophia and Owen met while they were both working at Carnarvon Gorge National Park over 11 years ago and the rest, as they say, is history.

As the only 2 Rangers on Welford National Park, Rangers Sophia and Owen work side-by-side in Queensland's remote outback and we're sharing their love of protected areas (and each other).

They shared some insights to their unique working relationship about patience and managing work life balance.

'We’re both pretty laid back and enjoy that we see eye to eye on most issues. I also think it makes us more patient co-workers, because you can’t get annoyed at your colleague and just go home and vent about them to your partner!' Ranger Sophia said.

'We’re good at switching out of ‘work mode’ after hours and on weekends. We enjoy gardening, going to local events and socialising when the weather allows,' Ranger Owen added.

Sophia and Owen also enjoy spending time together on the national park after a hard day's work!

'In summer we like to go down to the Barcoo River for an afternoon swim or kayak. Lots of people turn their noses up at the brown water, but we love it,' Ranger Owen said.

'There's so much to see and discover in western Queensland. Getting to live and work in national parks that not everyone knows about, or gets to visit, is a big part of what we love about our job,' Ranger Sophia said.
