Wriggle like a snake, stamp on pests and hunt for dragons on this fun walk through the Lake Eacham rainforest. Take the family on this 1.4km return walk which gives kids (and adults) a chance to learn about some interesting things while having a good time. The track is suitable for prams but is steep in places and the time taken to return will depend on how much fun you’re having.
Getting there and getting around
Lake Eacham children’s walk is in the Lake Eacham section of Crater Lakes National Park, about 68km drive up the Gillies Range from Cairns.
Access roads are sealed and suitable for conventional vehicles.
- From Cairns, drive approximately 68km up Gillies Range Road, turn left on Lake Barrine Road and then left into Lakes Drive. Alternatively, drive approximately 4km from Yungaburra township along the Gillies Range Road, turn right into Lake Barrine Road and then left into Lakes Drive.
- The start of the children’s walk is located at the southern end of the Lake Eacham day-use area, near the bus parking area.
- Return along the same track.
