Bushwalking through Expedition National Park should only be undertaken by fit, experienced bushwalkers with good navigational skills and equipment. Topographic maps, a compass and the ability to use them is essential. A GPS and Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) are highly recommended. Visitors planning to drive, walk and camp in remote sections of the park should have an emergency plan worked out with a responsible friend or family member.
Please complete a remote bushwalking advice form to help with your remote walking and camping preparations. Give a copy of this form to a responsible person and make sure that they know your exact route and when you expect to return. If you change your plans, tell them. Contact them when you return and have an emergency plan in place if you fail to contact them by an agreed time. If you are overdue or potentially lost, your nominated contact should report this to the Queensland Police Service (phone Triple Zero 000). The police will organise rescue procedures.
