Rum Jungle camping area is a sheltered site in a tiny pocket of rainforest in the saddle between Mount Barney’s east and west peaks located on Map Sheet: Mt Lindesay 9441-13, Grid Reference: 697 715.

Seasonal Closure: This camping area is closed from 1 December – 31 January due to potential for high temperatures and associated high fire danger, and to allow for regeneration of this sensitive area.

Camping area features: A sheltered site in a tiny pocket of rainforest in the saddle between Mount Barney’s east and west peaks.

Location: Grid Reference: 697 715.

Access: A 4 to 5hr walk from Yellow Pinch via South Ridge. This is a steep walk with several exposed rock scrambles.

Number of sites: 3 camp sites allowing 2 people per site. Maximum of 6 people at this remote bush camp.

Camp sites are suitable for: self-sufficient, walk-in camping.

Camp site surface: Soil and leaf litter.

Facilities: None. Must be self-sufficient. Water collected from creeks should be treated before drinking. All rubbish (including food scraps) must be carried out.

Open fires: Prohibited. Use fuel stoves only.

Generator use: Not allowed.

Essentials to bring: Drinking water, extra food, first-aid kit, topographic map, compass, torch, warm clothing, wet weather gear, rubbish bags, insect repellent, fuel or gas stove and a small trowel for burying faecal waste. Read more about before you visit.

Mobile phone coverage: Average. You might need to use 07 prefix if calling Queensland numbers.
