The first stage of the Wangetti Trail, from Palm Cove to Ellis Beach, is now open. The new 7.8-kilometre track is suitable for both hiking and mountain biking.

The Trail takes you through Macalister Range National Park and the Wet Tropics of Queensland World Heritage Area.

You’ll cross forested slopes, dip in and out of lush rainforest, and emerge from beneath towering canopies onto peaks with sweeping views of the coastline.

Construction is planned for the next section of the Wangetti Trail and will extend 94 kilometres once complete. The trail will offer a multi-day hiking or mountain biking experience between Palm Cove and Port Douglas. Find out more about the project.

Location

Follow the signage from the beginning of the Trail at Palm Cove Esplanade, up Cedar Road to the Captain Cook Highway. Cross the highway safely using the pedestrian refuge; the Trail continues north from this point.
