A string of beautiful waterholes, fringed by paperbarks and rushes, are a feature of Wongi State Forest. Tannins leached from the paperbarks stain the water in the waterholes a golden-brown colour. Reflections can often be seen in the still waters.

Forest communities include hoop pine dominated rainforest, open eucalypt forest, and open woodland with a heath understorey. Exotic pine plantations are also grown here. In the heart of the forest is Lenthalls Dam, the water supply for Fraser Coast Regional Council.

Location

Wongi State Forest is located 25km north-west of Maryborough.
