You can start this walk the Kauri Creek camping area, or further along the track near the Kauri Creek day-use area. The first 600m section links the Kauri Creek camping and day-use areas. Stop for a while at Kauri Creek and watch the clear water gently flow past you on its way to Lake Tinaroo. This area of Danbulla is alive with birds so take your binoculars and walk quietly.
The second section (5.1km circuit) continues on from the Kauri Creek day-use area. In the shade of a towering canopy you’ll meander along the bank of Kauri Creek and deep into the forest. Be prepared to get your feet wet on the crossings!
Step back in time as the track follows old forestry roads and imagine what it would’ve been like snigging timber out of these forests.
Sections of this walk are part of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area, famed for its exceptional natural beauty, outstanding examples of the record of life, evolutionary history and remarkable diversity. The return track can be steep and narrow in places and should only be undertaken by fit and experienced walkers.
