Queensland National Parks Booking System Update

Always check

Sleep beneath the stars at the Wreck Creek camping area—you’ll feel right at home in the private, spacious camp sites.

Take a stroll along the deserted beach or go fishing for dart or bream. When calm you can enjoy a peaceful paddle in your canoe or kayak looking for turtles and other marine life in the protected waters of the Great Barrier Reef.

At night, grab your torch and search for sugar gliders, greater gliders and ringtail possums in the tall, Moreton Bay ash and pink bloodwood trees, or just sit back, relax and enjoy a ‘yarn’ around the camp fire.

Getting there and getting around

Wreck Rock camping area is in Deepwater National Park, about 6.5km south of Agnes Water on the Central Queensland coast.

The camping area is 3.4km from the southern entrance, accessible by conventional vehicle, or 7.1km from the northern entrance, on the Deepwater coastal drive, accessible by high-clearance 4WDs only.

  • Be respectful of the park neighbours by staying off private property.
  • Remember all vehicles must be registered, drivers must be licensed and all Queensland road rules apply, even on beaches.

From Bundaberg

Two-wheel drive vehicles can only access Wreck Rock camping area and Wreck Rock day-use area from the south. Contact local information centres first to check current road conditions are suitable.

High clearance four-wheel-drive vehicles with high and low range capabilities are required for accessing all other areas.

Access roads to camping areas are suitable for camper trailers. Caravan access is not possible.

  • From Bundaberg, take the Rosedale–Seventeen Seventy Road (sometimes signposted as 1770) approximately 58km to Berajondo.
  • Turn right into Tablelands Road, 500m before Berajondo.
  • Travel along Tablelands Road for 2.8km and turn right into Hills Road.
  • Proceed for 19.2km to a T-junction.
  • Turn right into Coast Road and follow it for 5.6km.
  • Just before Wartburg, turn left into Fernfield Road.
  • Travel 7.5km then turn left into Deepwater Road.
  • Follow the road 10.5km, cross the concrete ford, swing right and then turn immediately left into Wreck Rock Road. This is the start of the Deepwater coastal drive.
  • From here the park boundary is 2km, the Wreck Rock camping area turnoff is 5.5km and Middle Rock camping area (accessible only by high clearance 4WD) a further 3km.

From Agnes Water

Before you visit

Opening hours

Wreck Rock camping area is open 24 hours a day. Check-in to your camp after 2pm and check-out by 11am on the day of departure.

Camping area features

Shady camp sites behind the fore dunes, just a short walk to water and beach activities.

Location: at the south-east end of the park, behind the fore dunes.

Access:

  • From the northern entrance to the park, access is only suitable for high clearance four-wheel drive vehicles with high and low range capabilities.
  • From the southern access roads you can access this camping area in two-wheel drive vehicle—contact local information centres first to check current road conditions are suitable.
  • Access is suitable for high clearance camper trailers. The camping area is not accessible for caravans.

Camp sites: camp only in the area defined on the camping area sign map. The camping area has 14 camp sites.

Camp site surfaces: sand.

Facilities: picnic tables, one cold outdoor shower, composting toilets (carefully follow instructions for appropriate toilet use), fire rings, rainwater and bore water. Treat all tap water before drinking or bring your own drinking water.

Open fires: fuel stoves are recommended. Campfires are permitted in fire rings provided, except when fire prohibitions or fire bans are in place – check Park alerts. Please bring your own firewood. Collection of firewood and the use of chainsaws are prohibited.

Generators: permitted between 8am and 9pm; must have a sound rating of less than 65 decibels (2.0Kva).

Essentials to bring: drinking water, clean-milled firewood, gas or fuel stove, rubbish bags, insect repellent. Read more about before you visit.

Bookings: book online or learn about our camping booking options—advance bookings are required for holiday periods.

Mobile phone coverage: generally not available. (Reception might be possible on the beach at Wreck Rock and along the access road.)
