Camping on the Cooloola Great Walk

The Cooloola Great Walk has:

• Four small walkers’ camping areas between the southern and northern entrances; Brahminy walkers' camp, Dutgee walkers' camp, Kauri walkers' camp, and Litoria walkers' camp.
• Water tanks at each camping area (treat all water before drinking).
• Toilets at each camping area.
• A 'maximum stay' rule—only one night's stay in each walkers' camp—to ensure everyone has the opportunity to walk through this long-distance track and be assured of camping availability.

Please note:

• Cooloola Great Walk is an e-permit camping zone.
• Camping permits are required and fees apply.
• A permit tag with your booking number must be displayed at your camp site.

Be aware: Camper numbers are limited.

• Maximum length of stay at each walkers' camp is one night.
• Maximum group size is six people.
• Advance bookings are essential.
• Bookings can be made up to 12 months in advance.

Great Walkers’ etiquette

• Be self-sufficient.
• Camp only when and where you have booked.
• Stay on the track.
• Never waste water.
• Observe camping quiet time after 9pm.

Leave no trace

• Only use existing tent sites.
• Use human waste disposal kits.
• Never dig trenches.
• Never damage plants or hurt animals.
• Don’t tie rubbish bags or tent ropes to trees.
• Pick up everything! Leave your camp site in the same (or better) condition than when you found it.

Cooloola Recreation Area, Great Sandy National Park

Vehicle Access Permits are required to drive through designated areas in the Cooloola Recreation Area. For all other camping within the recreation area, camping permits are required and fees apply.
