Orientate yourself with the large map of the gorge to find your way to the walking tracks. View informative displays to find out about the best walks for a sunset photo, where to spot birds and other wildlife, the best places to swim or stay cool on a hot day and tips for paddling your canoe through the gorge.

Getting there and getting around

The Lawn Hill Gorge visitor centre is in Boodjamulla National Park (Aboriginal Land) in remote north-west Queensland, close to the Northern Territory border, 270km north-west of Mount Isa.

  • The Lawn Hill Gorge visitor centre is a short walk from the day-use car park in the Lawn Hill Gorge section of the park.
  • The Lawn Hill Gorge section of the park can be accessed from the south via Mount Isa or Camooweal; from the east via Gregory Downs or from the north.

Wheelchair access

The visitor centre is wheelchair-accessible but you may need assistance on the rough track from the car park.

Drinking water

  • Collect water (treat before use) from the taps at the Lawn Hill visitor centre and Lawn Hill Gorge camping area.
  • Don't drink water straight from Lawn Hill Creek as it can make you very thirsty because of the high levels of calcium carbonate. Please do not waste water.
