Set out in your boat, canoe or kayak from the mainland and head to North Spit to this shady day-use area on the shore of Pumicestone Passage. It's a perfect location to swim, picnic, relax and soak up the scenery.
At this protected anchorage you'll feel completely immersed in nature as vehicles can't access this part of the island. Throw in a line to catch a flathead or mangrove jack and, in summer, try your luck with sand and mud crabs.
After a picnic or barbeque, explore the spit and watch for sea eagles and brahminy kites gliding along the coastline. See if you can recognise the 'flap-flap-flap-glide' motion of the graceful osprey.
