Queensland National Parks Booking System Update

Park Improvements in Progress

Girraween National Park is undergoing a $7.7M major upgrade to improve visitor facilities. This includes a new amenities block, a new Visitor Information building, additional carparking and improved infrastructure for people with disabilities. The existing visitor centre will be refurbished into an office for the local rangers.

Construction is expected to take place from October 2024 to July 2025 (weather permitting).

During construction:

* The visitor centre and adjacent car park will be TEMPORARILY CLOSED for safety reasons.

* Visitors can park in the day-use area and camping areas.

* Trailhead and orientation signs are available in the day-use area

Orientate yourself by looking at the large park maps detailing walking tracks and other park features. Then you’ll be ready to set out on one of the many walking tracks which start from the Centre!

Before you start exploring Girraween's spectacular features, spend some time in the visitor information building. Discover a treasure-trove of information and displays about this unique landscape and its wildlife.

Orientate yourself by looking at the large park maps detailing walking tracks and other park features. Then you’ll be ready to set out on one of the many walking tracks which start from the Centre!

Getting there and getting around

Girraween Visitor Information Building is in the northern part of Girraween National Park, located on the Queensland–New South Wales border, 260km by road south-west of Brisbane.

The building can be accessed from the northern and western park entrances and is accessible by conventional vehicles.

From Brisbane to western entrance

  • Drive about 220km south-west along the New England Highway via Warwick to Stanthorpe.
  • Continue 26km along the New England Highway to Wyberba (30km north of Tenterfield).
  • Turn onto Pyramids Road and follow this winding bitumen road through the Wyberba Valley 6km east to the western park entrance.
  • Drive about 3km to the Girraween Visitor Information Building.

From Brisbane to northern entrance

  • Drive about 220km south-west along the New England Highway via Warwick to Stanthorpe.
  • Turn onto Sugarloaf Road, which turns into Eukey Road and drive about 15km via Storm King Dam towards Eukey.
  • About 1km before Eukey, turn onto Breens Road, drive 2.5km then turn onto Pyramids Road and drive about 6km to the northern park entrance.
  • Drive about 4km to the Girraween Visitor Information Building.

Wheelchair access

Visitors in wheelchairs can access the Girraween Visitor Information Building from the car park.

Opening hours

The visitor information building offers free Wi-Fi 24hrs a day, and there is also a public pay phone situated in the carpark.
