Camping in Main Range
Camping permits are required and fees apply. Bookings must be made online and in advance, especially for weekends, public and school holidays. A tag with your booking number must be displayed at your camp site.
It is advised that you bring your own drinking water and/or equipment to treat water before drinking. Water from all taps or taken from creeks within the park should be boiled or chemically treated before drinking.
No bins are provided at the camping areas; campers are asked to take their rubbish with them.
Developed camping areas
There are three developed camping areas in Main Range National Park; Spicers Gap camping area and the Poplar Flat and Manna Gum camping areas at Goomburra. Private campgrounds are located opposite Queen Mary Falls and at Goomburra.
Spicers Gap camping area is located on the eastern side of the range to the south of Cunninghams Gap. The Goomburra camping areas are located on the western side of the range to the north of Cunninghams Gap.
These three camping areas have composting toilets and tap-water. Water availability and quality varies with the seasons and usage. Treat all water before drinking—it is a good idea to always bring your own drinking water. Barbecues are provided at Goomburra only. All camping areas are within short walking distances to graded walking tracks.
A public phone is available at the private Goomburra Valley campground, located 5km west of the park boundary. The phone is located near the office, which is situated approximately 150m north of Inverramsay Road at the entrance to the campgrounds.
Remote area bushcamping
Opportunities for remote, walk-in bush camping are available within the park. Three individual remote bush camps are available – Mount Steamer Saddle, Lizard South, and Stern camps, as well as four remote camping zones, in the north (Cunninghams Gap North zone), centrally (Mount Huntley/Panorama Point and Spicers/Double Top zones), and south (Steamer/Mount Superbus zone). See individual remote area bush camp and remote camping zone descriptions for more information. The availability of fresh water within the park depends on the season and rainfall. Please check the locations and availability of remote area bush camp sites when booking online.
