    Note: All fishing activities must comply with the restrictions or conditions placed upon them by the Fisheries Act 1994 and associated regulations, e.g. apparatus, bag and catch limits. All fishing equipment must be stowed and secured when in an area of a zone in which the use of the equipment is not authorised under marine park legislation.

    Notes:

    1. Up to 3 hand-held lines/rods per person and a maximum of 6 hooks/lures (aligns with restrictions under Fisheries legislation).
    2. Up to two hand lines/rods and a maximum of two hooks/lures per person.
    3. All equipment must be stowed or secured.
    4. Limited to no more than 2 specimens of the same species; or a total of 5 specimens of a fish species listed in Schedule 4, Part 2 of the Marine Parks (Moreton Bay) Zoning Plan 2019; or a marine invertebrate other than an excluded invertebrate, greater than 5mm in length. Collection of coral is prohibited.
    5. Limited to four crab pots or dillies per person.
    6. Other than bait netting, which is allowed.  N11 fishery symbol required.  Net must be in compliance with Fisheries legislation. Taking of bream, flathead or whiting is prohibited. Fisheries legislation also prohibits take of some other species.
    7. For limited impact research (extractive or non-extractive) conducted by an accredited educational institution or accredited research institution under the institution’s accreditation in a General Use zone, Habitat Protection zone, or a Conservation Park zone, no permit is required.
    8. Research in Marine National Park zones is restricted to priority research for marine park management or research that cannot reasonably be conducted elsewhere.
    9. Not involving fishing or collecting.
    10. Restrictions apply in designated Go Slow Areas other than transit lanes and marked navigation channels.
    11. Restrictions apply in Grey Nurse Shark designated areas.
    12. Anchoring is prohibited in designated No Anchoring Areas (NAAs).
    13. Recording of images or sounds with negligible impact on the marine park.
    14. Managed vessel is an airboat, hovercraft, hydrofoil, or a wing in ground effect craft.

    The zoning plan does not affect the operation of s.211 of the Commonwealth Native Title Act 1993.

    Moreton Bay Marine Park designated areas entry and use provisions table

    Designated areas are in place to provide additional location specific management of particular values. Rules applying in designated areas are in addition to zoning rules, not instead of them. Know your zones and designated areas. Below is a summary of the designated areas that apply to recreational and commercial users of the marine park. Note that this is not a complete list of all of the designated areas that occur in Moreton Bay Marine Park – refer to the zoning plan for detailed information.

    • For turtles and dugongs
    • For natural values

    Vessels must not be navigated:

    • in a planing or non-displacement mode
    • for motorised water sports
    • in a way or at a speed that could reasonably be expected to result in striking a turtle or dugong

    Go slow area for turtles and dugong (vessels >8m)

    Vessels >8m are restricted to a speed of 10 knots or less.

    No anchoring areas

    • No anchoring of vessels or aircraft
    • Public moorings are   available for use in some no-anchoring areas. Rules apply for their use.

    Grey nurse shark area

    • No diving between 6pm and 6am (unless the person has a reasonable   excuse).
    • Diving activities at all other times are subject to rules and restrictions
    • No interference to grey nurse sharks and their habitat

    Mooring Area

    • Mooring activity is authorised under the Transport Operations  (Marine Safety) Act 1994 or the Fisheries Act 1994.
    • Rules apply for the entry and use of the area for the purpose of carrying out a mooring activity to minimise impacts to the substrate.
