A wonderful place to enjoy a picnic, barbecue or rainforest walk, Maiala was the first area on the D'Aguilar Range to become a national park. It now forms part of the larger D’Aguilar National Park.

Feel the cool shade of the rainforest as you wander along one of five walking tracks—the Rainforest circuit, Cypress Grove track, Western Window track, Greenes Falls track and Westside track—all accessible from this site.

Many wayside signs in the day-use area and along the Rainforest circuit interpret the history of the site and the beautiful natural environment.

Falling bunya cones—injury risk. Mature female cones are large, football sized and weigh up to 10kg! They fall at random during fruiting season (usually December to March). Stay safe by not walking near or under fruiting bunya pines.

Getting there and getting around

Maiala is in the southern section of D'Aguilar National Park, about 42km from Brisbane's city centre.

Access roads are sealed and suitable for conventional (2WD) vehicles.

From the Brisbane suburb of The Gap, take Mount Nebo Road (tourist route number 8) to Walkabout Creek Discovery Centre.
Continue north-west along Mount Nebo Road for another 30km to Maiala on the north-west edge of the Mount Glorious township.
Alternatively, drive about 19km from Samford via Mount Glorious Road to Maiala.
Maiala day-use area and the walking track entry points are located next to the car parks.

Wheelchair access

Wheelchair-accessible roadside car parks on Mount Glorious Road offer the best combination of parking, access to toilets, barbeques, picnic shelter and picnic tables.
