The Swamp Bay walk is suitable for walkers only.

Walk through lowland rainforest and over a tidal stream to arrive at the coral strewn beach of Swamp Bay.

Stroll the beach, enjoy a picnic and picturesque views across to the Molle Islands.

Stay a little longer. Hike-in bush camping is available at Swamp Bay camping area, no facilities are provided. Remember a pre-booked camping permit is required.

Alternatively, on a mid to high tide and fair weather, boat or kayak your way to Swamp Bay from Shute Harbour.

Getting there and getting around

The Swamp Bay walk is in Conway National Park approximately 8km southeast of Airlie Beach.

  • From the Mount Rooper circuit trailhead follow the circuit along the foot of Mount Rooper for 1.2km to reach the Swamp Bay walk turnoff.
  • From the turnoff, walk 900m one-way to reach Swamp Bay, return the same way you came.

Wheelchair access

There is no wheelchair access to the Swamp Bay walk.

The Swamp Bay walk is open all year round. Access maybe closed at times due to severe weather or park management activities.
