Conway National Park has shared trails where walkers and cyclists share the same trail. Please be careful and courteous and follow the shared trails give way code.
- Cyclists must slow down, give way to and watch for walkers.
- Cyclists must alert others when approaching.
- Everyone must slow down and go around wildlife.
The Wompoo way follows an old logging trail to a peaceful creek where you can relax under the shade of Alexandra palms.
Listen for the loud, deep and resonating call of the wompoo fruit-dove…’woom-POO’. Falling fruit from the canopy often gives the location of this bird away.
Be prepared for some steady uphill section on this trail.
Getting there and getting around
The Wompoo way walk is located in Conway National Park approximately 16km southwest of Airlie Beach.
- From the Forestry Road trailhead, follow the Conway Range trail for 2.3km one-way to reach the Wompoo way turn-off.
- Return the same way you came, or continue on the Conway Range trail.
Wheelchair access
There is no wheelchair access to the Wompoo way.

The Wompoo way is open all year round. Access maybe closed at times due to localised flooding, severe weather or park management activities.
